In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, we assessed the efficacy of Bactrim DS for patients with acute severe urinary tract infections (UTI), who were treated with a combination of Bactrim DS and metronidazole for the first time. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either 1/2 mg Bactrim DS or placebo (n = 6). The primary efficacy endpoint was change in clinical and laboratory parameters, along with bacteriologic tests, in order to determine the overall impact of Bactrim DS treatment on the laboratory parameters of the patient's complete bacteriologic response to the combination therapy. Secondary endpoints included laboratory parameters of the patient's complete bacteriologic response to the combination therapy.
